The Screencast-O-Matic is a screen capture/editing tool available through Western.
Use in Classrooms
Screencast-O-Matic is installed in all classrooms and you can use it to capture your lectures as well as create and edit rich media for use in Canvas or anywhere else. To get started, simply log into the Screencast-O-Matic homepage for Western (instructions below) and use your WWU universal login to get started. If you intend to use Screencast-O-Matic to lecture in WWU classrooms, contact Classroom Services and let us know which room you will be using so that we can make sure it has microphones and that they are set up properly to work with Screencast-O-Matic. Please allow 1 business day for this to be completed.

Western Team account license ended on June 24, 2022. If WWU users did not transfer videos to another platform such as Panopto prior to that date, they will need to contact Screencast-O-Matic Technical Support at support@screencast-o-matic.com. See Panopto at Western for information about using this video management system.

Background
Summer 2021-Fall 2021: ATUS offered SCOM users help downloading videos and uploading them into a non-CRN Canvas course in the Panopto folder.
September 2021: ATUS ended technical support for Screencast-O-Matic in favor of the more full-featured Panopto video management system.
September 2021-June 2022: To aid in the transition to another platform such as Panopto, ATUS extended access to Screencast-O-Matic's license until June 24, 2022. During the 2021 transition year, ATUS strongly recommended that any new content be created and published in Panopto.
After June 24, 2022: Links to SCOM videos no longer function without changing the account or linking to videos hosted elsewhere, such as Panopto. If users wish to continue using Screencast-O-Matic beyond this date, they may change to an individual free account (with a 15-minute playback limit) or opt to upgrade to a paid account. Unless users change their account or move the videos to another platform such as Panopto, existing links to these videos will result in a blank screen. A list of educational plans and a feature comparison list are available on their website: Screencast-O-Matic License Plans.
