Mute a Chat or Channel in Teams

Open teams and navigate over to the “Chat” button to mute a chat. (To mute a Team channel, you would click the Teams button and navigate to the Team and channel you would like to mute.) You will notice that a “chat” can sometimes get created during calls and phone conferences. Because you were invited or because you could “chat” in the conversation, you are now part of the conversation. Much like being CCed in an email you may want out of, If you don’t want further notifications form this even, the best way to handle this is to just mute the channel.

Instructions

Mute the channel you do not wish to receive notifications for.

  1. Select the triple dots next to the chat channel you would like to mute (tip it will likely be bolded if there is an active conversation going)

  2. Click the Mute option in the menu that appears.

 3. If you would like to un-mute the chat or channel, reverse this process.

Muted chats and channels will still appear bold when there are new messages. Muting them just blocks pop-up notifications and notification sounds.
