New Data Connections
This article provides instructions on how to request the activation of a new data connection in a Bellingham main campus building (excluding residence halls) or the Shannon Point Marine Center in Anacortes. Data connections are required to provide wired network service to computers, printers, IP telephones, and other devices.
Residence Hall occupants requiring assistance with data connections should contact ResTek.
Occupants of other campuses or remote sites should contact the ATUS Help Desk, their department IT support, or their local campus IT support.
Instructions
Please submit a Help Desk ticket or New Data Connection form with the following information:
Identify the building and room number where you would like to have an active data connection.
Indicate in the request any special uses or requirements for the connection (e.g. “power-over-ethernet”, “secured network for payment-card processing”, etc.).
If there is a faceplate with data/phone jacks available in the location you want service, identify the jack numbers of any open jacks you wish to activate. Jack numbers are listed as a range at the top of the faceplate, and are read left-to-right, then top-to-bottom. For example, if a faceplate with four jacks is labeled “1A 380-383”, then:
the upper-left jack is 1A 380,
the upper-right jack is 1A 381,
the bottom-left jack is 1A 382,
and the bottom-right jack is 1A 383.
If no wall plate/jacks are available, indicate on the request the location where you would like new jacks installed (e.g. “north wall, near the east corner”).
Provide the budget code to be billed for the work.
New data activations are billed per the Departmental Service Fee schedule. If no jacks are available for installation, there will be additional charges from Facilities Management to install new cabling. If you are not a budget authority, please obtain authorization from a budget authority before requesting this service.
