How do I dial a department in Teams?

You can phone an individual in Teams by searching for them by name and then clicking the audio call button.

Some departments will appear in Teams if you search for them by name, but they are listed only because they have a shared email mailbox for that department. You can’t initiate audio calls, video calls, or chats with these mailboxes. The way to reach a department in Teams is to dial the 10-digit number for that department using the dialpad. When you transfer a call to a department, you must transfer the call to the 10-digit number for that department as well.

Instructions

  1. Look up the department’s phone number using one of the following resources:

    1. Search for the department’s web page to view their phone number or preferred contact method: https://search.wwu.edu/

    2. Look up the department’s phone number in the campus directory: https://adminweb.wwu.edu/dept_directory/

  2. Click the Calls module in Teams and then click the Phone/Dialpad
