Highlights
New network firewalls and intrusion detection/prevention systems are in place and working for the campus.
MatLab will be upgraded 9/19 at 2:00am.
Internet router software upgrades will roll out at 6:00am on 9/19 and 9/21. No impact to users or systems anticipated.
Network authentication and policy servers will be patched on 9/20 at 6:00am. No impact to users or systems anticipated.
Two security improvements will be rolling out to SharePoint: “Block Downloading of Malicious Files” on 9/20, and “Disable Custom Scripts” on 10/04 (pending further discovery).
The new Education Abroad application, Via, will go live on 9/22.
The Banner test databases (PPRD and WISP) will migrate to a new server on HCI beginning on 9/22. Banner test environments will be unavailable during the migration.
Sometime before the end of September, the landing page for Banner session timeouts will be changed to make it easier to log back in to the system.
The production Banner database will be migrated to HCI on the weekend of 10/20. A Banner outage announcement for that period will go out in advanceBanner and its dependent systems will be offline for a database migration starting 10/20 and extending into the weekend.
There will be a brief disruption of wireless network service in some buildings the morning of 10/04, between 7:30-8:00.
ATUS will institute new security settings in SharePoint to block custom scripts, sometime in October.
EIS is planning a simplification of the MS-SQL architecture. Clients pointed to MSSQL-PROD.wwu.edu (140.160.249.71) should update their settings to use MSSQL-PROD1.univ.dir.wwu.edu (140.160.249.150) instead.
Software updates to wireless access points will be deployed on November 7th, causing a rolling outage of wireless networking across campus between 6:00am-7:30am.
The wireless network client certificate will be updated in December. This will move our annual renewal cycle from Summer to Winter, which will reduce the impact on students and faculty who leave in the summer and are forced to update their clients at the start of Fall term.
The AI/AW building complex will be without wired or wireless network services 12/12-12/22, while the network equipment is replaced.
The legacy static website service known as Campus Web will be decommissioned on or after 12/31/23. ATUS, WebTech, and distributed IT will work with site owners to migrate any sites on Campus Web that need to stay online.
