Problem

I’m trying to access Google Maps and I keep getting the following error:
”We are sorry, but you do not have access to Google Maps. Please log in to your Admin Console to enable Google Maps.”

Solution

There are two ways to work around this error:

  • Sign out of your Google account by clicking on your profile in the upper right corner of Google Maps (or open Google Maps in a new browser tab).

  • Switch to a personal Google account for Google Maps: Click on your profile in the upper right corner and switch to your personal Google account. If you do not see your personal Google account, click the option to Add another account.

Western enabled the free-for-education version of G-Suite to provide Google Docs and Google Drive as an alternative for individual academic use back in 2016. We enabled a short list of core G-Suite apps including Google Drive and Docs, Google Hangouts, Keep, Sites, Photos, and YouTube. Google Maps was never part of our G-Suite environment, but recently people have been getting this error when they attempt to access Google Maps while signed into a browser with their WWU G-Suite account. Google Maps is not covered by our G-Suite terms of service.
