Action Required: Renew Office 365 Group by...

If you own an Office 365 Group you will receive annual notifications FROM the following address prompting you to renew your group:

Microsoft Online Services Team <msonlineservicesteam@microsoftonline.com is the address that Microsoft will send these notifications from.

These are legitimate messages, so please do not ignore them! You need to renew your Office 365 Group if it is still needed.

Why would an Office 365 Group expire?

We have hundreds of old Office 365 Groups that appear to be no longer used. In order to allow unused groups to expire, we have set an annual expiration that will send this email message to owners asking them to simply click the RENEW GROUP button. Renewing the group will keep it from expiring for another year. As the group owner you may wish to renew the group for archival purposes even if it is no longer being actively used.

Does this apply to Microsoft Teams?

Yes! Microsoft Teams are based on Office 365 Groups, so the same expiration policy applies. If you own a team you will receive a similar notification to renew. The Teams app itself will also prompt you to renew by putting an alert symbol next to the expired team.
