Troubleshooting

What if the USB key is lost or damaged?

Contact the vendor representative, Steven Mell, for a replacement.

Can the software be installed on multiple computers?

Yes, but it can only be used on the computer where the USB key is connected.

What should I do if the software doesn’t recognize the USB key?

Try unplugging and reinserting the key. If that doesn’t work:

  • Restart the VDM Service Manager.

  • Check for USB driver updates.

  • Contact IT support if the issue persists.

What happens if the device loses its license?

This usually occurs when the USB license key is unplugged or disconnected. Follow these steps to restore functionality

  1. Right-click the VDM Service Manager icon (green “C”) in the system tray.

  2. Select About VDM — it should display “Standard”.

  3. If it doesn’t say “Standard,” right-click the icon again and select Restart VDM.

  4. If it does say “Standard,” continue with the steps below to reconnect detectors.

How do I reload the detectors after the license is restored?

  • Open the MCA Input Definition Editor from the Start Menu (under Genie 2000).

  • In the MID Editor, go to Database > View to check if detectors are loaded.

  • If no detectors appear:

    • Go to Database > Load To.

    • Select each detector and click OK.

    • The detectors should now be active and ready to use.
