Change Your Administrative Services Password (Banner/Oracle)

On August 14th, 2019, Western switched to Microsoft's Self Service Password Reset service for managing the universal password. This change required us to develop a new method for managing administrative passwords for Oracle and UisAP.

ISSUES

  • All Banner users must now update an Administrative Services Password every 183 days. This is in addition to the Universal password, but it can be, and should be, set to the same password.
  • Oracle passwords are now synchronized with the UisAP password. In the past the Oracle password was synchronized with your universal password. 

ACTIONS REQUIRED

  • If you are a Banner user, or if you use an application (e.g., Microsoft Access) that connects to Oracle via ODBC, you must change both your universal password and your Administrative Services password every 183 days.
  • Change your Administrative Services password first! The password requirements for the Administrative Services password are more specific than the requirements for the Universal Password. The Administrative Services password should be between 8 and 12 characters long, and should include at least one letter, number, and symbol within the first 8 characters.

Universal Password Requirements: 

  • Must be between 8 and 30 characters in length (we recommend 12 characters or more)
  • Must contain 3 out of these 4 character sets: Lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers, and special characters
  • Cannot use a previously used password
  • Must change your password at least every 183 days

Administrative Services Password Requirements:

  • Must contain a minimum of 8 characters, but not more than 12
  • You must use at least one character from each of the following character types (and you must have at least one letter, one number, and one special character within the first 8 characters of the password)
    • Upper or lower case text
    • Numbers
    • The special characters ~ ! % * _ - [ ] ? , .
  • No English language dictionary words may be used.
  • No part of your name may be used.
  • No part of your USERID may be used.
  • Do not use your phone number or room number.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

In the past the Oracle password was synchronized with the Universal Password. Many Banner users also updated their UisAP password to access job submission report outputs from a mapped drive, or to access UisAP directly via SSH. Now the UisAP password and Oracle password are updated by the Administrative Services Password Change form. The TisAP password is still managed separately.

Why all Banner users must now change an Administrative Services Password:

You can access Banner 9 Admin Pages directly from myWestern after you sign in with your universal password. However you must have an active (not expired) password set on the Administrative Services side in order for your Banner access to work. If you do not keep your Administrative Services Password up to date, you will not be able to sign into Banner 9 from myWestern.
