Overview

Purpose

To document the installation, management, and support process for the Li-COR LI-820 software in Rebecca Bunn’s lab (ES 306), ensuring consistency and ease of use across all user profiles.

Audience

CENV IT staff and authorized lab personnel supporting or using the LI-820 CO₂ Gas Analyzer in ES 306.

Software management

This section provides both instructions and information about how we manage this software in the College of the Environment.

Licensing

  1. No activation or online registration is required.

  2. A license file (if applicable) is included within the installation folder.

  3. Contact the software administrator if licensing changes or renewals are required.

Deprovisioning

  1. Remove the software folder from the root directory C:\.

  2. Delete the public desktop shortcut from C:\Users\Public\Desktop.

  3. Re-hide system and hidden files if previously unhidden.

  4. Confirm removal by logging in as a different user and ensuring the software no longer runs.

Installation

  1. reparation

    • Log in with an account that has administrator rights.

    • Unhide hidden/system files:

      • In File Explorer:

        • View > Show > Hidden items

        • Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (under Folder Options > View)

  2. Unblock Executable

    • Right-click the main executable file.

    • Select Properties.

    • Under the General tab, if a security message appears, check Unblock, then click Apply > OK.

  3. Move Files

    • Move the entire Li-COR LI-820 software folder to the root of the C:\ drive (e.g., C:\LI-820).

  4. Create Shortcut

    • Create a shortcut to the primary executable.

    • Copy the shortcut to C:\Users\Public\Desktop to make it available to all users.

  5. Verify Functionality

    • Log in as a different user (non-admin test account).

    • Launch the software from the public desktop shortcut and verify successful operation.
