ATP scan of email attachment takes an hour or longer

Problem

You received an email message that says "ATP Scan in Progress" a long time ago, but the scanned message still hasn't arrived.

Solution

ATP (Advanced Threat Protection) usually takes no longer than a few minutes to scan an email attachment, but on rare occasions it seems to get stuck. This happens most often with PDF attachments. The attachment will eventually be delivered, but in a few cases has taken several hours.

You can try to speed things up with this trick:
  1. Open the "ATP Scan in Progress" message in your email client
  2. Forward it to yourself
  3. You will receive the ATP Scan in Progress message again, but this time it might send you the original very quickly.
