Requesting Improved Wireless Network Service

All wireless network service on campus is provided by an enterprise wireless network managed by ITS. Funding for the expansion and replacement of wireless network equipment is provided one of four ways:

  • The Student Technology Fee provides annual funding to address student wireless needs, including classrooms, labs, outdoor areas, and lounge/study spaces.

  • Capital budget funding for new construction, remodels, and classroom upgrades typically includes funding for new wireless network access points.

  • The university periodically provides one-time loans from institutional reserves to address whole-building upgrades to the wireless network. These funds are intended to address every academic/administrative building on campus on an 8-year cycle. University Residences maintains a separate schedule and funding plan for wireless improvements in residence halls.

  • Individual departments may work with ITS to self-fund the installation of wireless access points in their spaces.

Instructions

  1. To request a self-funded wireless network installation, please submit a Help Desk ticket or the “Wireless/Network Consultation” request form. ITS will perform a site-survey of your space and provide you an estimate and timeline for installation.

  2. To learn more about wireless network service in an upcoming new construction or remodel project, please contact the Project Manager for the project, as listed on the Capital Budget an Planning department website.

  3. To find out if your area is scheduled for Student Tech Fee or institutionally-funded improvement to the wireless network, please submit a ticket to the Help Desk and an ITS networking representative will contact you with more information.

Wireless access points installed by ITS are the only wireless network devices permitted on campus, per university policy. If ITS discovers any unauthorized wireless access points connected to the university network, we will shut off the device’s access and contact the department to request its removal.
